SMACS Press Release - e-Gate Control System.

IFSEC 2011 Award Finalist.

SMACS provides improved performance for Wanzl’s e-Gate Control System

SMACS from Fastcom Technology is the latest evolution in the field of access control to combat the danger of unauthorised entry of persons through Tailgating and Piggybacking. In contrast with older technology anti-tailgating systems, SMACS uses the very latest in Biometric and 3D recognition to provide the most flexible and secure solution for eliminating the danger of unauthorised entry across a wide range of applications.

SMACS has worked in conjunction with Wanzl Passenger Services to develop the e-Gate control system.  This innovative approach to securely manage the entry of persons into specific areas utilises a newly-designed Wanzl turnstile working in tandem with the SMACS single entry system to ensure that only one person can enter the area at any one time.

A major benefit of the e-Gate is that it can dispense with the need for key cards, PIN codes etc., which can be mislaid, stolen, or abused, and are a weak spot in traditional access control systems. The e-Gate uses the SMACS single person detection system coupled with the biometrics of authorised personnel to allow access; should the entrant’s biometric credentials not be recognised then the gate will not open and an alarm will be raised to security personnel.

Philippe Niederhauser, Head of the Secure Access Solutions division at Fastcom Technology: “We believe that SMACS is the missing link in access control.  It is the only truly flexible system that can be used anywhere in a building without the need for expensive building work or alterations; in fact a simple corridor can be used as a personnel airlock to effectively control entry into any part of a building.” Philippe added, “We are delighted to be working with our partner Wanzl Passenger Services on the innovative e-Gate which we believe to be a new dimension in ‘people control’, eliminating the dangers to a business through unauthorized access from tailgating.”

The innovative e-Gate will be demonstrated for the first time in the UK at IFSEC 2011 and can be seen on stand C40 in Hall 4.
